Indications:

Method of administration:


Cats and dogs under 10 kg body weight: 1 capsule/day

Dogs over 10 kg body weight: 1 capsule/10 kg body weight/day

Description:


Calcium carbonate is one of the most commonly used calcium-based substances that bind with phosphorus. In patients with CKD, phosphorus is one of the main factors that contribute to the intensification of the symptoms of this condition. As a result, one of the main goals of therapies that combat CKD is to reduce phosphorus intake by administering a diet low in phosphorus or substances that can bind with phosphorus in the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract. Calcium carbonate is separated in the digestive tract, and the calcium ions that are released as a result of this reaction couple with phosphate present in food and form Calcium Phosphate which is insoluble and non-absorbable. This leads to a decrease in the amount of calcium absorbed from food. Studies conducted on humans and animals have shown that reducing the phosphorus content of the daily diet is one of the main factors that contribute to increasing the survival rate of patients with CKD.


Chitosan is a partially deacylated polymer of acetylglucosamine, which is formed by the deacetylation process of chitin. When used in combination with Calcium Carbonate as a product to support the coupling of Calcium in the digestive tract, it produces a decrease in the concentration of phosphorus in the blood serum, a decrease in the level of parathormone and a decrease in the urinary secretion of phosphorus. The administration of these products can be considered an alternative to veterinary diets dedicated to dogs and cats with CRI.


The main purpose of the vitamin D in the product is to supplement the deficiency of this substance caused by CRI. The kidneys are responsible for transforming the inactive form of vitamin D into the active form - dehydroxycholecalciferol. In cases of renal failure, the body's ability to synthesize the active form of vitamin D is impaired, which is why supplementing this vitamin in the body is clinically recommended.
