Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you have any questions, check with your doctor again.

Action
The drug provides magnesium and potassium ions, thus supplementing the deficiencies of these elements in the body.
Magnesium activates many enzymes and mediates energy production and transport in the body. It is essential for the functioning of the heart muscle, nervous system, vascular smooth muscle, and striated muscles.
Potassium participates in the functioning of the nervous and cardiovascular systems and in neuromuscular conduction.
Indications
The drug Aspargin is used to supplement magnesium and potassium deficiencies:
- in heart disorders caused by magnesium and potassium deficiency,
- as a preventive measure in the case of coronary heart disease and the risk of heart attack,
- as a support in patients after a heart attack (during the recovery period),
- after infectious diseases or surgical procedures that caused a decrease in the concentration of magnesium and potassium,
- with long-term use of cardiac glycosides and diuretics (e.g. thiazides, furosemide).
Contraindications
When not to use Aspargin:
- hypersensitivity to the active substances or any of the other ingredients of the drug,
- excess magnesium or potassium in the blood,
- severe renal failure,
- urinary tract infection,
- heart disorders (sensation of the heart beating too slowly, too fast or too uneven),
- significant arterial hypotension.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Uncommon side effects (occurring in less than 1 in 100 patients treated):
- abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, which usually disappear spontaneously.
Rare side effects (occurring in 1 to 10 out of 10,000 patients treated):
- heart disorders,
- muscle weakness,
- redness of the skin.
Very rare side effects (occurring in less than 1 in 10,000 patients treated):
- insomnia.
Warnings and precautions
- The drug should be used with caution in people treated with nasal glycosides or other drugs containing potassium.
- The medicine contains sugar.
- Store below 25°C.
- Store in the original individual packaging to protect from moisture.
Use of other medications
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take.
Aspargin should not be used together with:
- antibiotics from the tetracycline group, because magnesium salts reduce the absorption of these antibiotics,
- oral coumarin anticoagulants,
- fluoroquinolones,
- medicines and dietary supplements containing phosphates, calcium and iron, as magnesium reduces their absorption,
- digitalis glycosides (heart medications) used in combination with potassium may lead to heart rhythm disturbances,
- Diuretics (amiloride, spironolactone, triamterene) and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (drugs used in cardiovascular diseases, e.g. captopril and enalapril) cause an increase in potassium levels in the blood.
Taking the medicine with food and drink
The drug should be taken after a meal with water. Magnesium absorption is reduced by the presence of phosphates, calcium, lipids, and phytates in the diet.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning a pregnancy, ask your doctor for advice before taking any medicine.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
Do not use in children under 12 years of age.
