Description
Acatar Acti-Tabs is a medication used for rhinitis and occasional allergic rhinitis. It contains two active ingredients: pseudoephedrine and triprolidine. Pseudoephedrine reduces swelling and congestion in the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses, as well as the amount of secretions, thus clearing the nose. Triprolidine reduces sneezing and nasal itching. Acatar Acti-Tabs tablets begin working within 15-30 minutes of administration and last for at least 4 hours. The medication can be used by adults and children over 12 years of age.
Composition
The active substances of the drug are: pseudoephedrine hydrochloride ( Pseudoephedrini hydrochloridum ) and triprolidine hydrochloride ( Triprolidini hydrochloridum ).
1 tablet contains 60 mg of pseudoephedrine and 2.5 mg of triprolidine.
Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, lactose, stearic acid, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate.
Dosage
This is a medicine. For safety, use it according to the package leaflet. Do not exceed the maximum dose. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The drug is administered orally.
Adults and children over 12 years of age: 1 tablet every 6-8 hours.
The maximum daily dose is 4 tablets.
Action
Acatar Acti - Tabs contains two active ingredients. Pseudoephedrine inhibits swelling and congestion in the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses, effectively unclogging the nose. Triprolidine reduces sneezing and nasal itching. The medication reduces nasal discharge (rhinitis).
Acatar Acti - Tabs starts working approximately 15-30 minutes after administration and lasts for at least 4 hours.
Indications
Acatar Acti-Tabs is indicated for the relief of symptoms of rhinitis, such as swelling of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses, runny nose, nasal congestion, and sneezing associated with colds and flu. The drug can also be used on an as-needed basis for allergic rhinitis and angioedema of the nasal mucosa.
Acatar Acti-Tabs is intended for the treatment of adults and children over 12 years of age.
Contraindications
Do not use Acatar Acti-Tabs: if you are allergic to the active substances or any of the other ingredients of this medicine or to sympathomimetic amines such as ephedrine or phenylephrine, used, among other things, to decongest the nasal mucosa; if you are taking or have taken within the last 14 days medicines from the monoamine oxidase inhibitor group, sometimes used to treat depression; in people with severe hypertension or unstable coronary heart disease; in people with severe liver and kidney failure; during pregnancy and breast-feeding; if you are taking furazolidone (a medicine used for bacterial infections) or other medicines containing pseudoephedrine or antihistamines; in children under 12 years of age.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects may occur:
Unknown frequency: hallucinations, drowsiness, sleep disorders, increased heart rate (tachycardia), hypertension, feeling of dryness in the mouth, nose and throat, rash (sometimes with itching), urinary retention in men who received pseudoephedrine (in such cases, an enlarged prostate gland may be an important predisposing factor), inflammation of the large intestine caused by insufficient blood supply (ischemic colitis).
Warnings and precautions
Before taking, consult your doctor if you:
- suffers from diabetes, heart rhythm disorders, hyperthyroidism, heart disease, hypertension, increased intraocular pressure, urinary outflow disorders,
- suffers from: pyloric stenosis, bronchial asthma, acute angle-closure glaucoma, epilepsy, renal failure, liver failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
While taking Acatar Acti-Tabs, you may experience sudden abdominal pain or rectal bleeding due to inflammation of the large intestine (ischemic colitis). If you experience these digestive symptoms, stop taking Acatar Acti-Tabs and seek immediate medical advice or attention from a doctor.
If symptoms persist, worsen or do not improve after 3 days, or if new symptoms occur, contact your doctor.
Acatar Acti-Tabs contains lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
Store below 25°C.
Use of other medications
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take.
Acatar Acti-Tabs may interact with: sedative drugs, drugs that constrict blood vessels of the mucous membranes (e.g. phenylephrine), tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), appetite suppressants (sibutamine), psychotropic drugs with an amphetamine-like effect (bupropion, phentermine) or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (moclobemide), alcohol, bretylium, betanidine, guanethidine, debrisoquine, methyldopa, drugs blocking alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors.
Taking the medicine with food and drink
Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Acatar Acti-Tabs.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Acatar Acti-Tabs should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
Do not use in children under 12 years of age.
Driving and operating machinery
Patients taking Acatar Acti-Tabs should not drive or operate machinery because the medicine may cause drowsiness.
