Description
Bilastyna Nasometin contains the active ingredient bilastine. It is intended to relieve symptoms associated with hay fever, such as sneezing, itching, a runny or blocked nose, and red and watery eyes. It is also used for other forms of allergic rhinitis and to treat itchy skin lesions.
Composition
The active substance is bilastine ( Bilastinum ) .
One tablet contains 20 mg of bilastine.
Excipients: Microcrystalline cellulose, Crospovidone (type A), Magnesium stearate, Colloidal anhydrous silica.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take the tablet by mouth one hour before or two hours after a meal or fruit juice. Swallow the tablet with a glass of water.
The recommended dose for adults, including the elderly and adolescents aged 12 years and over, is 1 tablet (20 mg) daily.
Action
Bilastine Nasometin is an antihistamine drug. Bilastine is a non-sedating, long-acting histamine antagonist with selective affinity for peripheral H1 receptors.
Indications
Bilastine is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (seasonal and perennial) and urticaria.
Contraindications
Do not use the medicine in case of hypersensitivity to any of the product's ingredients.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Side effects that may occur in adults and adolescents include:
Common: occurring in more than 1 in 100 but less than 1 in 10 treated patients: headache, drowsiness.
Uncommon: occurring in more than 1 in 1,000 but less than 1 in 100 patients treated: abnormal ECG, changes in blood tests suggesting liver problems, dizziness, stomach pain, tiredness, increased appetite, heart rhythm problems, weight gain, nausea, anxiety, dry or uncomfortable nose, stomach pain, diarrhea, inflammation of the stomach, vertigo (dizziness or spinning sensation), weakness, increased thirst, dyspnoea (difficulty breathing), dry mouth, indigestion, itching, cold sores, fever, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), sleep disorders, changes in blood tests suggesting kidney problems, increased levels of fat in the blood.
Unknown frequency: cannot be estimated based on available data: palpitations (feeling of heartbeat), tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), vomiting.
Side effects that may occur in children include:
Common: occurring in less than 1 in 10 patients treated: rhinitis (nose irritation), allergic conjunctivitis (eye irritation), headache, stomach pain (abdominal pain, upper abdominal pain).
Uncommon: occurring in less than 1 in 100 patients treated: eye irritation, dizziness, loss of consciousness, diarrhea, nausea, lip swelling, eczema, hives, fatigue.
Warnings and precautions
Caution should be exercised especially in patients with: renal impairment, then concomitant administration of bilastine should be avoided.
Use of other medications
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or are planning to take, including those obtained without a prescription.
This information is especially important if you are taking: ketoconazole (an antifungal drug), erythromycin and rifampicin (antibiotics), diltiazem (a drug used to treat angina pectoris), cyclosporine (a drug used to reduce the activity of the immune system, thereby avoiding transplant rejection, or to reduce disease activity in autoimmune and allergic diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis or rheumatoid arthritis), Ritonavir (a drug used to treat AIDS).
Taking the medicine with food and drink
Bilastyna Nasometin should not be taken with food or with grapefruit juice or other fruit juices, as this weakens the effect of the drug.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
The decision to use the drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding is made by the doctor.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
Not to be used in children and adolescents under 12 years of age.
Driving and operating machinery
This medicine does not affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.
