The power of buds

Hawthorn (Crataegus): Hawthorn belongs to the rose family and thrives best in light thickets, hedges, deciduous and pine forests, and on sunny slopes. Its main constituents include flavonoids and flavonol glycosides. This member of the rose family is found throughout Europe.

The olive (Olea europaea): The olive tree belongs to the olive family and has served as a food source for humans for millennia. Its valuable constituents include primarily oleuropein (6–9%) and the secoiridoid elenolic acid. Other important constituents are flavonoids, triterpenes, and phenols.

The black alder (Alnus glutinosa) is widespread from Europe across North Africa to West Asia. The buds of this birch relative contain a special mixture of flavonoids, polyphenols, and oligomeric proanthocyanidins, better known as OPCs.
