The urine drug test is a competitive immunochromatographic test, designed to investigate the presence of drugs in human urine samples.
When the level of a certain drug in the sample is zero, or when it is found in the sample at a level that is below the detection limit, the antibody-dye conjugate binds to the drug-protein conjugate, immobilized in the test area (T).
This reaction produces a colored line that indicates a negative result regardless of the intensity of the line.
When the level of a certain drug in the sample is equal to or higher than the detection limit of the test, the drug in the sample will bind to the antibody-dye conjugate, blocking its subsequent binding to the drug-protein conjugate, immobilized in the test area (T).
Therefore, the colored line cannot appear in the test area (T), indicating a potentially positive result.
To serve as a procedural control, a colored line will appear in the control area (C) when the test has been performed correctly, regardless of whether or not a colored line appears in the test area (T).
