FIWA gauze compresses – for reliable wound care

FIWA gauze compresses are made of 17-thread gauze according to DIN EN 14079 and are 100% cotton. The folded edges prevent fraying and ensure a smooth, flat surface against the skin. They are suitable for general wound care, particularly for contaminated, infected, and exuding wounds. The compresses can be used as wound dressings or swabs and are suitable for use in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Applications and properties

These non-sterile gauze compresses are intended for external use and designed for the initial treatment of wounds. They can be used as compresses or swabs during minor surgical procedures, in outpatient settings, or in hospital wards. For application directly to open wounds, the non-sterile product must be sterilized beforehand using a validated method. FIWA gauze compresses are also available in sterile, sealed packs of two, allowing for immediate use in wound care.

Instructions for use

Clean the affected skin or wound area according to the instructions of your healthcare provider. For direct contact with open wounds, use either the sterile, sealed gauze pads or sterilize the non-sterile pads before use using a validated procedure. Apply the pad appropriately according to the wound size and then secure it with suitable dressing material. Follow the instructions from your doctor's office or pharmacy regarding the frequency of dressing changes.

Regulatory information and storage

The non-sterile gauze compresses are classified as medical devices according to Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR), Class I, Rule 4. The sterile, sealed versions are classified as Class Is, Rule 4 according to the German Medical Devices Act (MPG), Directive 93/42/EEC. The products bear the CE marking and are labeled at all packaging levels according to DIN EN ISO 15223-1. Store the gauze compresses in a dry place and protect them from direct sunlight.

Important warnings

Do not use the product if the packaging is damaged. Gauze compresses are single-use products and must not be reused. Do not use the compresses after the expiration date. Non-sterile compresses must not come into contact with open wounds without prior sterilization. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
