Description

Acard 150 mg - a medicinal product containing acetylsalicylic acid, which inhibits the clumping of platelets.

Composition

The active substance of the drug is acetylsalicylic acid ( Acidum acetylsalicylicum ).

1 enteric-coated tablet contains 150 mg of acetylsalicylic acid.

Excipients: cellulose powder, corn starch, sodium carboxymethyl starch, coating: hypromellose, acryl Eze-White: 10, methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer (1:1), talc, titanium dioxide (E 171), colloidal anhydrous silica, sodium hydrogen carbonate, sodium lauryl sulfate, triethyl citrate, simethicone emulsion

Dosage

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.

The following dosage is usually recommended: 1 tablet per day.

In case of recent heart attack or suspected recent heart attack: 2 enteric-coated tablets at a time.

The tablets should be chewed very carefully to accelerate absorption.

Action

Acard 150 mg contains acetylsalicylic acid, which inhibits platelet clumping.

Indications

Acard 150 mg is intended for long-term, preventive use in diseases that pose a risk of blood clots and blockages in blood vessels.

Contraindications

When not to use Acard 150 mg:

• if you are allergic to acetylsalicylic acid, other salicylates or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
• if the patient has an increased tendency to bleed and blood clotting disorders;
• if you suffer from stomach and/or duodenal ulcer;
• if you have severe kidney, liver or heart problems (severe renal, liver or heart failure);
• if you have had asthma attacks after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other anti-inflammatory drugs in the past (symptoms: shortness of breath, wheezing);
• if you have gout;
• if you have congenital glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (a rare hereditary disease);
• if you are taking methotrexate (a medicine used to treat cancer) in doses of 15 mg per week or more;

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Common side effects (affects 1 to 10 people in 100):

• indigestion symptoms (heartburn, nausea, vomiting),
• abdominal pain.

Rare side effects (affects 1 to 10 people in 10,000):

• inflammation of the stomach and intestines, stomach and/or duodenal ulcer,
• transient liver dysfunction.

Very rare side effects (affecting less than 1 in 10,000 people):

• severe allergic reactions, including anaphylactic shock,
• renal dysfunction,
• reduction in blood glucose levels.

Frequency unknown:

• dizziness and tinnitus,
• hypersensitivity reaction, rash, hives, swelling, itching, cardiac and respiratory disorders,
• increased risk of bleeding, prolonged bleeding time,
• perioperative hemorrhage, hematomas, bleeding (nose, gums).

Warnings and precautions

• Do not use Acard 150 mg for at least 5 days before a planned surgical procedure, including minor procedures such as tooth extraction.
• Do not use the drug in case of hypersensitivity to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and antirheumatic drugs or other allergenic substances.
• Acard 150 mg contains sodium.
• Store Acard 150 mg below 25oC.
• Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Use of other medications

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

You absolutely must not use Acard 300 mg concomitantly with methotrexate.

Acard 300 mg may interact with:

• diuretics,
• antihypertensive drugs,
• anticoagulants,
• other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
• lithium salts,
• digoxin,
• antidiabetic drugs,
• alcohol.

Taking the medicine with food and drink

The medicine should be taken after a meal - swallowed whole.

Alcohol may increase the risk of gastrointestinal side effects caused by acetylsalicylic acid.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Acard 150 mg should be used during the first six months of pregnancy only after consulting a doctor. Use of the drug during the last three months of pregnancy is contraindicated as it may cause complications for both mother and baby.

Acetylsalicylic acid passes into breast milk in low concentrations, therefore the drug should not be used during breastfeeding.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents

Do not use in children and adolescents under 16 years of age.

Driving and operating machinery

Acard 150 mg has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
