Indications
Oktaseptal is intended for use in adults and children of all ages for: disinfection and supportive treatment of small, superficial wounds and skin disinfection before non-surgical procedures; supportive antiseptic treatment of closed skin layers after procedures – e.g., post-operative sutures; repeated, short-term antiseptic treatment of mucous membranes and adjacent tissues before and after diagnostic procedures in the oral cavity, genitals, and anus, including the vagina, vulva, and glans penis, as well as before bladder catheterization; in pediatrics (including for umbilical stump care); disinfection of the oral cavity (e.g., canker sores, irritation caused by wearing an orthodontic appliance or dentures); time-limited, supportive antiseptic treatment of interdigital mycosis; in the reproductive organs, e.g., in vaginal inflammation, as well as in the glans penis area.

Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
After wetting the vaginal mucosa, a warm or burning sensation may rarely occur. A bitter taste persists for about an hour after rinsing the mouth, which is related to the drug's action.
Warnings and precautions
To avoid possible tissue damage and local swelling, do not inject or introduce the drug into the tissue under pressure. In all cases, ensure adequate drainage from the wound cavity (e.g., drainage, suction).
Do not apply Oktaseptal to the inside of the ear or eyes. If the medicine comes into contact with the eyes, immediately rinse them with plenty of water.
Store out of the sight and reach of children, at a temperature below 25°C.
Use of other medications
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take.
Oktaseptal must not be mixed with other substances, in particular it must not be used in combination with PVP-iodine (povidone-iodine) based antiseptics on adjacent skin areas, because an intense brown to purple discoloration may appear in the border area.
Avoid contact with anionic surfactants, such as detergents and cleaning agents. Due to the possibility of interactions with anionic compounds, it is recommended to use distilled water (or water for injection) as a solvent.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
