Description

Paraffinum Liquidum - (liquid paraffin).

Composition

Liquid paraffin.

Dosage

15-45 g (1-3 tablespoons) at night and in the morning on an empty stomach. Use as directed by a physician.

Action

When administered orally, the drug covers the intestinal wall with a thin layer, creates a suspension with the intestinal contents and facilitates their movement to the lower sections of the digestive tract.

It inhibits the absorption of water in the lower sections of the large intestine and softens the fecal masses.

It is not absorbed and does not irritate the intestinal mucosa.

Indications

A laxative drug used in spastic and atonic constipation.

Contraindications

Do not use if:

• Hypersensitivity to liquid paraffin.
• Abdominal pain of unknown cause and acute inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, e.g. appendicitis.

The preparation should not be used in children under 3 years of age.
