Description
Metafen Zatoki - a medicinal product containing ibuprofen and pseudoephedrine used to treat ailments associated with sinus diseases.
Composition
The active substances of the drug are ibuprofen ( Ibuprofenum ) and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride ( Pseudoephedrini hydrochloridum ).
1 tablet contains 200 mg of ibuprofen and 30 mg of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride.
Excipients: povidone, pregelatinized starch, microcrystalline cellulose with colloidal anhydrous silica, sodium carboxymethyl starch (type A), mannitol, magnesium stearate.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any further questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Oral administration.
In adults and adolescents over 12 years of age, the usual dose is: initial dose - 2 tablets, then, if necessary, 1 to 2 tablets every 4 hours during the day.
People over 65 years of age: no dose adjustment is necessary unless renal or hepatic function is impaired, then the dosage should be determined individually.
- If you need to use this medicine for more than 3 days or your condition worsens, contact your doctor.
Action
The ingredients of Metafen Zatoki have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic properties and reduce congestion of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract.
Indications
Metafen Zatoki is used to treat symptomatic symptoms associated with sinus diseases.
Contraindications
When not to use Metafen Zatoki:
- if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to ibuprofen, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride or any of the excipients of the medicinal product,
- if you are allergic to NSAIDs, including acetylsalicylic acid: have had aspirin-induced asthma, angioedema (diseases of the skin and mucous membranes characterized by swelling), bronchospasm, rhinitis or urticaria associated with the use of acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs,
- in case of severe kidney or liver failure,
- in case of stomach or duodenal ulcer, perforation or bleeding, also occurring after the use of NSAIDs,
- in case of severe hypertension, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, prostatic hyperplasia, pheochromocytoma, nasal polyps,
- in case of severe cardiovascular disease, tachycardia, angina pectoris,
- in severe heart failure,
- if you have a history of hemorrhagic stroke or have risk factors that may increase the likelihood of hemorrhagic stroke,
- during pregnancy and breastfeeding,
- in case of bleeding diathesis and taking anticoagulants.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Uncommon side effects (affecting less than 1 in 100 patients):
- indigestion, abdominal pain, nausea,
- headaches,
- hives and itching.
Rare side effects (less than 1 in 1000 patients):
- diarrhea, flatulence, constipation, vomiting, gastritis,
- dizziness, insomnia, agitation, irritability and fatigue,
- swelling.
Very rare side effects (less than 1 in 10,000 patients):
- disturbances in blood count parameters,
- liver dysfunction,
- erythema multiforme,
- tarry stools, vomiting blood,
- severe hypersensitivity reactions such as swelling of the face, tongue and larynx.
Frequency unknown:
- severe skin reactions may occur: skin rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes.
Warnings and precautions
- Exercise particular caution in patients with diabetes, pyloric stenosis, or bladder neck obstruction.
- People over the age of 65 are at greater risk of experiencing side effects than younger patients.
- The medicine may mask the symptoms of an existing infection.
- When using pseudoephedrine, athletes may experience positive doping test results.
- Do not store at temperatures above 25 o C.
- Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Use of other medications
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Metafen Sinus may interact with:
- other NSAID drugs,
- drugs that lower blood pressure,
- diuretics,
- anticoagulant drugs,
- corticosteroids.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Do not use Metafen Zatoki during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Impact on fertility
There is evidence that drugs that inhibit cyclooxygenase (prostaglandin synthesis) may impair female fertility by affecting ovulation. This effect is transient and resolves upon discontinuation of therapy.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
Metafen Zatoki should not be given to children under 12 years of age without a doctor's recommendation.
Driving and operating machinery
People in whom Metafen Zatoki causes side effects and affects psychophysical performance should not drive or operate machinery.
