Description

Pigmentum Castellani is a liquid medication for topical application to the skin. It has antiseptic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and exfoliating properties.

Composition

The active substances in the drug are phenol, resorcinol, boric acid.
1 g of skin fluid contains 40 mg of phenol, 80 mg of resorcinol, 8 mg of boric acid.

Other ingredients are: basic fuchsin, acetone, ethanol 96%, purified water

Dosage

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The medicine is intended for use on the skin.

Adults: the affected areas should be lubricated or brushed 2 or 3 times a day.

In children over 3 years of age and adolescents : apply the medicine to the affected skin areas once a day.

Action

The phenol contained in the drug has a fungicidal and bactericidal effect, boric acid has a weak bacteriostatic effect (inhibits the growth of bacteria) and fungistatic effect (inhibits the growth of fungi), and resorcinol has a weak disinfecting and exfoliating effect.

Indications

Pigmentum Castellani is used for the local treatment of superficial fungal infections and superficial bacterial skin infections.

Contraindications

When not to use Pigmentum Castellani

• if you are allergic to phenol, resorcinol, boric acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
• in newborns and infants;
• in children under 3 years of age.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Rarely (affecting 1 to 10 users in 10,000), skin irritation may occur.

Warnings and precautions

• The drug should not be used on large skin areas, on skin without epidermis or with inflammatory changes, because the boric acid contained in the drug may be absorbed from the skin and have a toxic effect on the body.
• Note: the drug strongly stains the skin.

Store below 25°C.
Protect from light.
Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Use of other medications

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Pigmentum Castellani should not be used by pregnant women unless, in the doctor's opinion, the benefits of using the drug outweigh the risks to the fetus.
The drug should not be used while breastfeeding.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents

Exercise extreme caution when using Pigmentum Castellani in children.
Do not use in children under 3 years of age.
