Superabsorbent dressings absorb many times their own weight in fluid and release the bound exudate very little, even under mechanical pressure. This protects the wound edges from maceration. Vliwasorb is ideally suited for use under compression bandages. Vliwasorb saves time and money due to the reduced number of dressing changes required. Fewer dressing changes allow for longer periods of wound healing. The risk of infection is reduced by the absorption and binding of germs within the dressing. The absorption of exudate, slough, and cellular debris promotes wound cleansing, and the moist wound environment it creates supports wound healing.

- superficial wounds in the exudative phase, e.g.:
- Arterial and venous ulcers
- Burns and scalds (Grade III: after surgical debridement)
