Synvisc One ^® Hylan GF 20 is a medical device in the form of a solution in a pre-filled syringe intended for intra-articular injections on an outpatient basis. The preparation is a sterile, pyrogenic, elastic-viscous liquid containing hylan polymers A and B in a buffered, physiological sodium chloride solution (pH 7.2 ± 0.3). Hylans are derivatives of hyaluronan (sodium salt of hyaluronic acid). Hylan A is a chemical with an average molecular weight of approximately 6,000,000 daltons. Hylan B, on the other hand, is a hydrating gel. The preparation uses hylans produced on the basis of a highly purified extract of bird origin.
