Amflee

Amflee is available as a spot-on solution in single-dose pipettes, tailored to the dog’s body weight. 

For cats and ferrets, there are separate formulations, designed exclusively for these species, containing fipronil and S-methoprene in appropriate concentrations (Amflee Combo for cats). 

Amflee and Amflee Combo are indicated for the treatment and prevention of infestations with fleas (Ctenocephalides spp.), ticks (Rhipicephalus spp., Dermacentor spp., Ixodes spp.) and dog lice (Trichodectes canis) in dogs or cats.

Use of the product is also indicated in the management of flea bite allergic dermatitis, a common condition in dogs, in which rigorous flea control is an essential component of therapy. 

Amflee for dogs and cats is administered exclusively topically, by application to the skin in the area between the shoulder blades, after parting the fur to expose the skin. The minimum interval between treatments is 4 weeks.

The choice of pipette must be strictly based on the animal’s body weight to avoid overdose or underdose. For example, for dogs weighing 40–60 kg, a 4.02 ml pipette is used; for those weighing 20–40 kg, a 2.68 ml pipette; and for dogs weighing 10–20 kg, a 1.34 ml pipette. 

Amflee Combo for dogs must not be used on puppies younger than 8 weeks and/or weighing less than 2 kg, as there is insufficient safety data. It is also contraindicated in sick, feverish or convalescing animals. 

The formulations intended for dogs must not be used on cats or ferrets, as there is a risk of overdose. Hypersensitivity to fipronil, S-methoprene or any of the excipients constitutes another major contraindication.

Correct application involves avoiding contact between the product and the animal’s eyes and choosing an area where the animal cannot lick it. Mutual licking between animals immediately after treatment must also be prevented. 

Bathing or immersion in water is not recommended within the first 48 hours after administration.

Adverse reactions are rare or very rare, but may include transient changes at the application site, such as skin discolouration, localised hair loss, pruritus or erythema. 

Short-lived hypersalivation may sometimes occur, particularly if the animal licks the treated area. In exceptional cases, reversible neurological symptoms such as hyperaesthesia, depression or other neurological signs, as well as vomiting or respiratory signs, have been reported. 

To date, there are no known relevant drug interactions for Amflee dog and cat. 

However, the concurrent use of other topical antiparasitic products should be undertaken with caution and only on the advice of a vet.

Safety studies have shown that administering doses up to five times higher than the recommended dose to puppies aged at least 8 weeks and weighing approximately 2 kg was not associated with the occurrence of major adverse reactions. 

However, the risk of adverse effects may increase in the event of overdose, which is why it is essential to use the pipette appropriate for the animal’s body weight. 

Amflee for cats and dogs should be stored in the original packaging, protected from light. It does not require special temperature conditions, which facilitates storage under normal conditions. The shelf life is 3 years, provided the product is kept in its intact packaging, in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
