Xylitol
Description Xylitol
The information in the FAQ section was created by the Liki24.co.uk team and is based on the official manufacturer's manual
Xylitol is a natural sweetener found in birch bark and various fruits and vegetables. It is also known as birch sugar. It is the sweetest of all sugar substitutes, with a taste very similar to sugar. Sugar has 4.1 kcal, while xylitol has only 2.4 kcal, but with the same sweetening power.
What are the benefits of using xylitol?
Xylitol can improve oral health - it has a significant anti-plaque effect and can reduce gum inflammation. It is used to prevent early stages of tooth decay caused by the pathogenic bacteria Streptococcus sangui and Streptococcus mutans.
Xylitol may have a remineralising effect - it can bind to calcium ions, leading to the remineralisation of tooth enamel.
Xylitol may be beneficial in certain respiratory diseases and ENT infections due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory potential.
Xylitol can reduce constipation, may have a beneficial effect on blood sugar regulation, can help maintain optimal body weight and may have a stimulating effect on the immune system and digestion.
How is Xylitol used?
Xylitol is a sugar alcohol that is commonly used as a sweetener.
It is stable when boiled, baked or frozen.
It is recommended for sweetening cakes, drinks, hot or cold dishes, desserts, compotes, liqueurs, etc., and for food preparation. Since it does not cause the same increase in blood sugar levels as regular sugar, it is ideal for those who do not want or are not allowed to consume sugar.
What is chewing gum with Xylitol?
Chewing gum with Xylitol, when used especially after meals, helps reduce the development of tooth decay and, thanks to its menthol flavour, has a refreshing effect.
Xylitol does not cause tooth decay.
Miradent sweetened with 100% Xylitol has a positive effect by: reducing plaque deposits; increasing saliva production (dry mouth); remineralising tooth enamel; reducing acid-forming bacterial plaque; reducing ‘caries transmission’ from mother to child; it is suitable for diabetics with a doctor's recommendation.
Recommended daily dose: 5-7 tablets for adults, 3-4 tablets for children.
What are the side effects of Xylitol?
Xylitol can cause some side effects such as irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhoea, and nephrolithiasis when consumed in excessive amounts.
Is there toothpaste with Xylitol?
Yes, there is toothpaste with Xylitol that has the following properties: remineralises enamel;
inhibits plaque and tartar formation; strengthens gums; inhibits bacterial growth; helps restore teeth to their natural whiteness; provides fresh breath.
Use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste and brush your teeth at least twice a day.
Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
How can you use xylitol?
Cakes – You can replace the sugar in a cake recipe with xylitol. It absorbs moisture faster than sugar, so it is important to keep this in mind when preparing the recipe.
A 1:1 ratio can be used, and some recipes may require less liquid.
Jams and marmalades - Xylitol can often crystallise in the refrigerator, but adding a dash of xantham gum will fix the problem and keep your jams and marmalades as good as the day they were made.
Instead of brown sugar - There are many recipes that call for brown sugar. It is surprisingly easy to swap brown sugar for xylitol. Simply add 1 or 2 teaspoons of molasses along with a 1:1 ratio of xylitol and you have brown sugar.

Cinnamon chewing gum - Miradent Xylitol, 30 pcs, Hager&Werken
Very cool chewing gum. I chose it for the fact that it is 100% sweetened with xylitol and thus contributes to the health of the oral cavity. The cinnamon flavor that it contains gives it a good taste (in the opinion of those who like cinnamon :) ), just that it doesn't last too long...
