Transparent wound film for safe skin protection

3M Tegaderm Film is a transparent, sterile, and elastic polyurethane film that reliably protects the skin while remaining flexible. Thanks to its latex-free, hypoallergenic polyacrylate adhesive, it is well-suited for sensitive skin. Its transparency allows for the observation of wounds and catheter insertion sites during the dressing's wear time without removal.

Applications and properties

The film can be used to cover and protect wounds and catheter insertion sites. As a secondary dressing, it supports a moist wound environment, thus promoting wound healing and autolytic debridement. As a primary dressing, it is suitable for securing medical devices, such as intravenous catheters. It can also be used to protect vulnerable skin, as a protective eye dressing, and to cover first- and second-degree burns.

Application

Before application, the affected skin area or wound should be properly prepared and cleaned. The sterile film is then positioned correctly and smoothly adhered to the skin to be protected, or over the wound or puncture site. When used to secure medical devices, the film is applied in such a way that the device is held securely in place. The dressing should be checked regularly, depending on the condition of the skin or wound, and replaced as needed.
