In the body, some fluids are acidic or alkaline, depending on their role. Digestive juices, for example, are acidic (pH<7), which allows them to break down foods. Blood, on the other hand, should be slightly alkaline (pH=7.4). pH measures the acidity or basicity of a solution*. The pH of body fluids is regulated by the presence of "buffer" systems that attenuate variations, mainly acidification linked to cellular metabolism and the ingestion of acids in the diet.

Minerals in citrated form have the advantage of being bioavailable. In particular, zinc in citrated form contributes to normal acid-base metabolism, playing a role in the body's main buffer system, thus helping to balance the pH of the blood.
