Women prone to recurrent vaginal infections (e.g., chronic bacterial vaginosis) can restore or maintain a healthy and therefore resilient vaginal environment by using lactic acid. They can contribute to prevention themselves by using Vagisan Lactic Acid: rapid acidification of the vagina, stabilization of a physiological pH value, and prevention of bacterial vaginal infections.

Vagisan lactic acid can be used preventively in cases of recurrent vaginitis and as a supplement to drug treatment (oral administration of antibiotics) in cases of vaginal infection.

Vaginal inflammation typically arises from an imbalance in the vaginal flora, caused, for example, by frequent antibiotic use, hormonal fluctuations, a weakened immune system, etc. In a healthy vagina, an acidic environment provides natural protection against infection. Acidifying the vaginal environment with lactic acid supports the growth of the beneficial lactobacilli (lactic acid bacteria) that are typical of the vagina and essentially constitute a healthy vaginal flora. At the same time, acidification with lactic acid inhibits the proliferation of harmful pathogens. Lactic acid can therefore be used preventively in women prone to recurrent vaginal infections (e.g., bacterial vaginosis).

Vagisan Lactic Acid are vaginal suppositories containing a lactic acid-sodium lactate mixture. They are used to maintain and restore the natural acidity (pH value) in the vagina, which is normally between 3.8 and 4.4.

Vagisan lactic acid suppositories acidify the vaginal environment, bringing it back to the normal vaginal pH. This allows alkaline bodily fluids such as menstrual blood or semen (whose pH is above 7) to be quickly absorbed. This is particularly important for women prone to recurrent vaginal infections.

The duration of treatment is generally 5–7 days (a kind of "lactic acid treatment"). Vagisan Lactic Acid is well tolerated, and the vaginal suppositories can also be used during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. For those prone to recurrent vaginal infections, long-term treatment with Vagisan Lactic Acid is also possible; in this case, the suppositories are applied 2–3 times per week.

Vagisan lactic acid vaginal suppositories are free of heat-sensitive fats. No special storage conditions are required, including refrigeration.
